‘Team Williams’ 150hp announced today of their intention to step up from the 150hp class in a bid to become the first ever duo 225hp team ever to compete in the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat Series, the largest off-shore powerboat series in the World.

Martin Campbell, Driver of the 150hp boat is said to be making arrangements to sell his boat after various enquiries have been made from racing enthusiasts wanting to purchase the Cougar Powerboat. The team who are currently sitting 5th in the Honda Championship have said that the boat is now available for purchase for the 2009 season.

“We have had a good time racing the ‘Williams’ 150hp in the Honda series and it has been a great stepping stone which will now lead us on to the bigger 225hp class. Scott who drives the current 225hp boat is keen for us to make the move”, said Martin.

Cougar who produce the boats that race in the 150hp and 225hp fleets have noticed an in-flux in the interest of powerboat racing over the years. With more and more people attending the Honda Formula 4-Stroke events this season the team at Cougar are preparing for a busy winter as the production line hits a record high.

“The current boat design of the Honda Sport Cruiser has changed considerably from the initial design that first raced when the series started in Torquay back in 1999. These boats are now better suited to the racing environment and in 2005 a second generation vessel was launched with a more modern appearance whilst retaining the same bottom features of the original boats”, said Peter Currington – Managing Director of Cougar Marine.

The final of the Honda Formula 4-Stroke powerboat race series takes place this September 13th & 14th in the Isle of Man. The championship rounds will complete the 2008 season with the ‘Team Williams’ 150hp powerboat making its last appearance under the Williams name.
