With only one day to go until the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat Race series hits the Mersey this weekend Team Williams the double act of the 150hp and 225hp powerboat class have been gaining as much media attention as possible at today’s (Thursday) Press Day which was held at the Liverpool Marina Bar & Grill.

The penultimate race weekend of the 2008 season comes to Liverpool for the third year running and this year joins in with the City of Culture’s 08 celebrations. All talk has been on the Wirral based team who started racing in the series in 2007. This year Williams driver’s Scott Williams of the 225hp boat and Martin Campbell of the 150hp boat were open to discussion as they were quizzed on what they thought might happen this weekend.

“I can’t wait to get out there, the rougher the water the better as we just want to give the crowds the entertainment that they come for. We really have to pull out all the stops on this one and the boys are ready to put up a good fight”, said Scott.

Scott who is the owner of a roofing company in Wirral joined the series for a number of reasons. His loyalty to the Charity Claire House has always spurred him on in the series as he continues to raise money for children with cancer and the fact that speed and putting himself in front of anything that will give him the buzz he needs which is what the sport can offer.

The Honda Formula 4-Stroke Series provides the team with the extreme spot light and media attention they need and being involved in the World’s largest off-shore powerboat series means they can’t really avoid it. Next year’s plans are in place to bring in another 225hp to replace Martin’s 150hp boat, making the Williams Team the first ever duo 225hp team the series has ever had in its ten year reign.

“Racing in the 150hp has been great fun, but I think we can really give the crowds some proper action if we are competing against each other in the 225’s. I know Scott wouldn’t hold back on me which would make it even more fun and it would be a good friendly fight but I know we’d be pushing to gain a vantage over each other”, said Martin.

The weekend’s racing kicks off at 11:15am this Saturday as the 150hp fleet take to the water followed by the 225hp fleet at 12pm. Sunday will give spectators a full day’s action on the water from 11am finishing with the Podium Prize giving at 3:30pm. Supporters of the Williams Team have said to be in their abundance and the boys urge as many powerboat enthusiasts to join them at this huge racing extravaganza.
