All eyes were on Ling’s in the first 225hp race of the weekend as the team were under immense pressure to dominate the first place position. Crew members David Cowley, driver and Chris Jary, navigator were on top form amid the pressure and stunned crowds in an extreme lead against the Williams boat making their position un-catchable.
“This was a great first race in Lowestoft; we held our own which I believe to be due to our knowledge of this race course and experience with these waters. I use this course as my practice course throughout the Honda season so I do have that advantage. Despite damage to the bottom of our boat which we will work hard on tonight; we will come back tomorrow for another win if we can”, said David Cowley.
Lings will race again tomorrow (Sunday) in a double battle starting with race one at 10:30 am and in race two at 1:00pm. Local support are anticipating a trio win to round of the race weekend, however the Williams team are in close contention alongside Heights of Abraham.
The 150hp races ran smoothly with championship leaders Hydrex reluctantly giving up their first place spot at the start of the day to opposition Premier Cru who ploughed into the lead. Jak Cockman and Andy Phipps of Hydrex turned their luck around in the second race and regained their first place position taking a lead start from the pack.
The day ended with a Honda Podium Prize Giving held at the Lings Honda Dealership Display on Royal Plain. Jason Yorke-Edgell, Managing Director of Ebel the Official Timing Sponsor to the Honda series hosted the ceremony. In true Formula 4-Stroke style competitors took to their places and celebrated with a huge champagne finish.
“Tomorrow promises to be an exciting finale with the 225hp boats racing twice and their championship positions being closer than ever before. With the assistance of the harbour authorities, the RNSYC and the many Formula 4-Stroke volunteers the event ran smoothly and professionally. With favourable weather we are expecting similar success tomorrow.” Said Brian Wheeler F4SA Officer of the Day.
