Competitors in the 150hp class fought hard for top spots in the race pack with Drainstore.com taking a first in race one, closely being hunted down by Salcombe Racing. However Premier Cru took Delmar’s third place on the final bend and drove them off the last buoy. “He shouldn’t have let him get past, they have worked hard to get third place, and it’s a shame”. said Delmar’s Press Officer Grenville Dowling.
Yet another home win came for local hero’s Negotiator in the 225hp race with some exciting competition from fellow Plymouth team Scream-it.com who shot through in second. Vortigern proved their mettle yet again this weekend with a wide third place showing they are one to watch out for this year.
After being disqualified on Saturday for missing a buoy James Brooke came back in style with his first ever win in 150hp Earls Court Boat Show. Navigated by new crew member Daniel Whapples, the duo threw their arms in the air as they crossed the finish line leaving Drainstore.com behind in their wake and a second followed by a reluctant third for Salcombe Racing.
2007 150hp champion winners Lings have moved up to the 225hp class and had a 3 lap battle with current 225 champions Negotiator. Lings eventually had to settle for second with the local Plymouth crew of Gavin Parsonage and Nathan Libby taking overall honors’ by winning all three of their races.
The chasing pack were left behind to contend for the minor places with an incident on the second turn forcing 5th placed Vortigern and 6th placed Premier Cru to retire from the race after both touched, the Premier Cru boat almost rolled over and both the navigator and driver were flung into the water – there were no injuries and the crew were retrieved by safety crews. The Buildbase crew were praised for stopping and making sure everyone was safe and well.
